All About Dental Implants

Here at Yew Tree Dental and Implant Centre we specialise in dental implants… if you hadn’t guessed that already!

That’s because your smile is important. A cheesy grin in a photo, a knowing smirk between a couple, beaming at a loved one – these are all special moments. Research has also found that smiling can improve your mental wellbeing. Yes, the mere act of showing your teeth can actually cheer you up!

Unfortunately, those of us who have missing or damaged teeth may choose to suppress our smiles.

We are here to stop this from happening. Dental implants can be the perfect solution to a less-than-ideal smile, and will have you rivalling the Cheshire Cat in no time.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are designed to replace the roots/root of your teeth/tooth. This allows for new fixed, or removable, replacement teeth to be fitted.

The implant itself is a titanium screw that is inserted into the jawbone. This procedure is performed under local anesthetic and can take as little as 30 minutes for a single tooth. If multiple implants are being fitted, this will take longer.

Once fitted, the implant must fully heal before a crown or denture is attached. The healing process takes between six weeks and six months. Being fully healed means that the jawbone has fused around the implant, ensuring perfect stability.

Do I Need Dental Implants?

If you have any missing or damaged teeth you may benefit from dental implants. They can improve your smile and your self-confidence.

However, in order to get dental implants your jaw must be fully developed, meaning that they are not appropriate for those under the age of 18. Furthermore, before undergoing dental implants, your general oral health will be assessed. Making sure that we start the procedure from this point means that the insertion and healing process will go smoothly.

Do Dental Implants Hurt?

Dental implants are fitted under a local anesthetic, so you will not experience pain throughout the procedure.

However, whilst the healing process is getting underway you may be subject to some discomfort. This should be reasonably minimal and can be assuaged by using over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

What Are Porcelain Veneers and How Do They Work?

What Are Porcelain Veneers and How Do They Work?

What Are Porcelain Veneers

Warm and positive, a smile is very often one of the nicest gifts we can offer to someone. For many of us, a smile from the right person can be more than enough to make our day.

Yet, this isn’t always so easily done. As there are some of us who are extremely self-conscious about the appearance and condition of our teeth, sharing a smile can sometimes be very difficult.

Why do we lose our smile?

Dissatisfaction with our teeth can stem from a number of problem areas. Discolouration, whether as a result of consuming certain foods/drinks or as a side effect of previous dental surgery, is one of the major causes of lost confidence. The source of this self-consciousness can also be the emergence of broken or chipped teeth over time or lifelong concerns over the alignment and symmetry of these hard-working body parts.

What are porcelain veneers?

The addition of porcelain veneers to our teeth can be an extremely effective method of helping us to recapture our lost smiles. Designed to cover the most common and confidence-destroying of teeth concerns and irregularities, porcelain veneers are fixed to the front of our teeth in order to alter their length, colour, shape or size.

As these veneers are created in accordance with the unique shape of each mouth and set of teeth, they offer patients a custom-made solution to their tooth-based hangups. And the benefits of porcelain veneers are many: they’re natural-looking, stain-resistant and can brighten even the darkest of teeth.

How do porcelain veneers work?

At Yew Tree Dental Care and Implant Centre, we take the utmost care in helping patients achieve the smile of their dreams. As such, when we fit porcelain veneers, we follow a thorough and meticulous process.

Following an initial consultation in which we’ll discuss all of the finer points of this procedure, we’ll take some moulds and photos to ensure your veneers are constructed in line with the shape of your mouth and teeth. Your second appointment will consist of your veneers being fitted and finished, leaving you ready to take on the world. A final aftercare appointment will then take place in order to ensure the success of the procedure and to make sure you’re satisfied with the end result!

Yew Tree Dental Care: Award Winners

With the roots of our modern-day surgery in the 1960s, at Yew Tree Dental Care & Implant Centre, we’ve delivered outstanding dental care to patients across five very successful decades.

In this time, we’ve managed to stay true to the highest standards of oral hygiene and become specialists in all areas of general dentistry, dental implantology and Invisalign treatments. With this in mind, it’s fair to say that, when it comes to dentistry, we represent the gold standard in terms of professional, attentive and highly-skilled dental care and patient satisfaction.

Award Nominations

With such a proud history behind us, a ferociously dedicated team and principal dentists of unrivalled calibre in Drs Neel and Natasha Shukla, it’s our mission to continue to provide a range of high-quality treatments to all of our patients, placing positivity at the heart of the individual oral healthcare journeys of everyone on our books.

To this end, it was a great honour to be nominated for two prestigious dental industry awards at the tail-end of last year: Best Care of Nervous Patients at the Oral Health Awards and Best Young Dentist at the Private Dentistry Awards.

Up for contention for these awards against a range of other outstanding dental professionals and practices from across the UK, these nominations proved further recognition of our dedication to quality and how we very often move beyond the regular duty of care expected by our patients.

Well Done, Dr Neel!

It’s a great pleasure to be nominated for such highly-regarded awards, but winning one is a different feeling altogether. Following a well-attended award ceremony, it was announced that our very own Dr Neel had managed to scoop the prize for Best Young Dentist for the South East region at the Private Dentistry Awards. Awarded this esteemed prize for his ceaseless commitment to his patients as well as his determination and drive to stand out in his field, we’re all very proud of Dr Neel and just as honoured to work alongside him each and every day.

Proud Nominees

Although we weren’t so lucky at the Oral Health Awards, our nomination in the category of Best Care of Nervous Patients went some way to affirm our efforts to help those with anxieties around attending dental appointments have the best experience possible.

Visiting the dentist can be a distressing time for anyone and we take great steps to ensure that nervous patients are provided with all of the support and care they need during every step of their oral healthcare journey. A huge congratulations to the eventual winner of this award and all of those who were nominated, it was truly wonderful to see so many practices who share our dedication to our patients.

Permanently Perfecting Smiles with Dental Implants in Slough

At Yew Tree Dental Care and Implant Centre in Slough, we focus on how to bring back your beautiful smile. We are able to artificially replace your missing teeth and build up a set of pearly whites by usually using titanium which is inserted directly into the jawbone. We insert an artificial replacement root, which provides a foundation for a false tooth or fixed denture. Not only are implants valuable for restoring a smile, but also play an important role in preventing bone loss in the jawbone and supporting facial structure following a tooth extraction. As dental implants are a more permanent solution than dentures (which are known to create anxiety whilst eating, drinking and even talking), by choosing our Implant Centre in Slough, we are sure to keep a smile on your face.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

A huge benefit to implants is that they can last a lifetime! The implant procedure itself is quick and painless and takes just 30 minutes to insert. You will be given a local anaesthetic prior to any work to the procedure, and although you may experience some discomfort in swelling, bruising and minor bleeding post-surgery, this is a very small side-effect to achieve a permanent fix to a broken smile.

Yew Tree Dental Care & Implant Centre

Our specialists are experts in performing dental implant procedures; we take great pride in creating a peaceful environment and have a strong, sympathetic and friendly team who will discuss all possible options with you and help you to feel at ease.

Each implant procedure is very individual, and your dentist will devise a tailored treatment plan to give your implants the best success of being secure and lasting for as long as possible. Once your implant is fitted, the surrounding bone will gradually build up around the implant and secure it, which can take between 6 weeks and 6 months. Whilst this may seem like a lengthy process, the outcome is a permanently perfected smile – it’s totally worth it! When in place, the implant will behave like a normal tooth; no one will be able to tell the difference between your real teeth and your implant.

Your smile is often one of the first things that people notice about you, so if you feel that an implant could help to enhance yours, contact us today and experience the best dental implants that Slough has to offer!
