Teeth whitening is one of the most common cosmetic dentistry treatments available today. Few people have a naturally brilliant white smile, and over time, teeth can lose their natural whiteness due to a number of factors, including diet, smoking, age, and oral health concerns. You might want to whiten your teeth to counter discolouration and staining, to enhance your smile and give your self-confidence a boost.Whitening treatments will work best on those stains caused by using tobacco and staining drinks like tea, coffee and red wine. Unfortunately whitening will not work on crowns or veneers, and any existing cavities will need to be treated before teeth can be whitened.
You can choose whether you have your teeth whitened at our clinic, at home over two weeks, or a combination of both. The treatment will depend on the severity of staining and the result you’d like to achieve. At the clinic, the dentist will use a light-activated gel containing hydrogen peroxide, whilst for home whitening, you’ll need to wear your custom-made trays containing a small amount of bleaching solution for up to two weeks. Safe and with great results, teeth whitening can really give new life to your smile.

Are there any side effects?

As with many cosmetic dental treatments, some patients may experience some sensitivity in their teeth immediately after treatment. There may be some mild gum irritation or white patches on the gum line which usually disappear within a few days of the end of treatment. Some patients may also experience a sore throat for a short time.

Does tooth whitening hurt?

You may experience some enhanced sensitivity to the teeth during and immediately after the treatment but otherwise no, tooth whitening does not hurt.

How long will results last?

Whitening isn’t permanent, but it can last for up to three years. It depends on the type and intensity of the treatment you choose, and your lifestyle choices and oral hygiene routine after treatment. Avoiding tobacco and staining drinks will significantly help to make the results last.
